2checkout is a very popular payment processor for merchants wanting to avoid the paperwork and usual hassles with obtaining a merchant account. Just like PayPal, we personally have used 2checkout to process transactions and can speak the following from experience.
2checkout is ultimately the merchant when credit cards are processed, 2co/2checkout appears on your customers billing statements. If your customer has a problem or question about a charge, their credit card statement may have 2checkouts phone number instead of yours. Using 2checkout will make your business look unprofessional, or not quite serious about doing business since virtually anyone can qualify for a 2checkout account, it's very easy for here today and gone tommorow merchants. When you use a merchant account you are put through a verification process that makes sure your in business for the right reasons and have a good enough reputation to qualify for the account. 2checkout doesn't view things that way, they charge a fee to setup the account, so their best interest is getting you signed up and getting that big first payment. With our merchant accounts, there are no up-front fees. Your business name appears on your clients credit card statement, your phone number, your the merchant. We have no experience with 2checkouts dispute protocol, however we do know that they don't offer 24/7 service like we do. Think about that when you need something at 3 in the morning.
